PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic transmission control system for actualizing the shift stage control of an automatic transmission adaptable to travelling environment by accurately and efficiently acquiring signals showing travelling environment in sections where a vehicle travels. SOLUTION: The automatic transmission control system comprises a communication means for communication with the outside for acquiring from the outside travelling environment data showing travelling environment in sections where the vehicle travels, and a shift stage control means for controlling the shift stage of the automatic transmission in sections in accordance with the travelling environment data acquired via the communication means. It also has a travelling condition detecting means for detecting the travelling condition of the vehicle, and a travelling environment estimating means for estimating the travelling environment in the sections where the vehicle travels in accordance with signals detected by the travelling condition detecting means. The shift stage control means controls the shift stage of the automatic transmission in accordance with the travelling environment data showing the travelling environment estimated by the travelling environment estimating means when the travelling environment data cannot be acquired from the outside via the communication means.
