PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a median filter capable of outputting stable data quickly, to provide a method for initializing the median filter, and to provide a position identifying device capable of identifying the position of a transmitter quickly. SOLUTION: An initial value supply section 13 supplies an initial value exceeding the maximum value of an input value, and that less than the minimum value of the input value to odd and even stages, respectively, in respective shift registers 11-1 to 11-11. An input value is successively inputted to the shift register 11-1, and the shift registers 11-1 to 11-11 successively shift the input value. A sorter 12 outputs the center value in a plurality of output values outputted by respective shift registers 11-1 to 11-11. Since an initial value supplied by the initial value supply section 13 exceeds the range of the input value, the input value becomes the center value of the sorter 12 and is outputted immediately when the input value is inputted.
