PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a jig for forming an external electrode capable of forming the external electrode with a thickness at an end surface within an appropriate range, and to provide a method for manufacturing a chip-type electronic component using it. SOLUTION: The jig comprises a plurality of convex parts 23 to be a contacting surface with its tip surface 23a of a contacting part 21 contacted with conductive paste 12 for forming an external electrode applied to the end surface 4 of a chip-type electronic component 1. The arrangement interval P of the convex parts satisfies a requirement of P≤(W-2r)/2 (in the equation, W is the dimension of the shortest side comprising the end surface, and r is a curvature radius of the chamfered part of the end surface corner), the dimension b of the narrowest part of the width of the convex part satisfies a requirement of b≤0.35P, and the height h of the convex part satisfies a requirement of 0.2b≤h≤b.
