PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem, wherein when the effect of effects processing is checked on a preview image, the application of the effects processing also on an original image causes the operation of the effects processing to impose a load. SOLUTION: A program for controlling an image processing apparatus that applies effects processing on an original image causes the image processing apparatus to execute the steps of generating and displaying a preview image; storing the preview image in a preview image storage part; acquiring the scaling ratio of the preview image to the original image; setting the effect density of the original image and effects density of the preview image, such that a density ratio that is the ratio of the effect density of the original image to the effect density of the preview image matches the scaling ratio; generating and displaying an effect-processed image of the preview image at the effect density, prior to applying the effect processing to the original image; and generating and displaying an effect-processed image of the original image after the display of the effect-processed image of the preview image.
