PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermoplastic resin composition while maintaining a high transparency, capable of aiming at the reduction of temperature dependence of its refractive index, and an optical element. SOLUTION: This transparent resin material obtained by dispersing inorganic fine particles surface-modified with an organic compound in a host material consisting of a thermoplastic resin is provided with that the refractive indices of the host material and inorganic particles satisfy the following formula (1) and also the volume fraction of the inorganic fine particles is≥20 and≤60%. 0≤¾np-nh¾≤0.15 ----(1) [wherein, np is the refractive index of the inorganic fine particles; and nh is the refractive index of the host material].
