PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a document image reader which can form a colored composite image by specifying the color of each of two or more documents read out and converted into each single color image. SOLUTION: The document image reader comprises an image reading means B for reading a document as a monochromatic image, an operating section 18 for specifying the color of a document read out, and an image composition control means A for forming a colored composite image by converting each document read out by the image reading means B into a single color image of a color specified at the operating section 18 and then superposing the single color images.
