<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal printer which is made compact without deteriorating the operability for opening a cover frame. <P>SOLUTION: A frame opening and closing member 41 is movable between a first position where it latches the cover frame when the cover frame is closed, and a third position displaced more from the first position than a second position where it releases latching to the cover frame.
