PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To certainly determine a failure type and a failure occurrence section without being affected by a failure occurring near a section boundary or joint-disconnection of a vertical line tie switch. SOLUTION: This failure orienting apparatus comprises a section group orientation information acquiring means 1b that receives sample amount information transmitted from sample amount measuring apparatuses arranged at both ends between a plurality of AT sections, classifies and stores the AT sections of the same power source group from the sample amount information, and selects and stores the sample amount information of the group of failure occurrence. This failure orienting apparatus also comprises a failure section information selecting means 1c for selecting and storing orientation information at both ends of the failure section required for orienting the failure point section ratio from the orientation information of the failure group selected and stored by the section group orientation information means. This apparatus also comprises a failure point section ratio orienting means 1d for calculating the failure point section ratio based on the orientation information at both ends of the failure section selected by the failure section information selecting means, and a failure point distance calculating means 1e for calculating the absolute distance from a start point of a electric overhead line to the failure point based on the failure point orientation value at the failure section distance determined by the failure point section ratio orienting means.
