PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a feeding device with the mechanism formed in a miniature, simple construction, capable of reducing the power consumption, maintaining the feeding and separating performance, and suppressing a bending tendency in a recording sheet. SOLUTION: The feeding device is equipped with is equipped with delivery rollers 88 and 89, a feed roller 32, a retard roller 42, transport rollers 94 and 95, a single unit of stepping motor 10 rotatable in the regular and reverse directions for driving the named members into rotation, and a contacting/separating means to put the retard roller 42 in pressure contact with or separation from the feed roller 32 with the driving force of the stepping motor 10, in which at least the feeding rollers 88 and 89 and the supply roller 32 are driven into rotation in the feeding direction and also the retard roller 42 and the feed roller 32 are put in pressure contact when the stepping motor 10 rotates in the regular direction, and when in the reverse direction, at least the transport rollers 94 and 95 are driven in rotation in the feeding direction while the retard roller 42 and the feed roller 32 are separated.
