<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a separator for an electric double layer capacitor and the electric double layer capacitor using the separator which are manufactured by a wet forming method, are composed of an inorganic fiber paper composed of an inorganic fiber mainly and substantially only an inorganic material and having a sufficient mechanical strength regardless of a low basis weight which is less than 100 g/m<SP>2</SP>, have good electrolyte wet properties and an excellent heat resistance, and do not generate a decomposition product. <P>SOLUTION: The separator for the electric double layer capacitor is manufactured with a material which contains an inorganic fiber of 60-97 mass% having an average fiber diameter of 5μm or less, and an inorganic binder of 3-40 mass% which mainly contains a silica-based scale-shaped inorganic matter in which an amount of a hydroxyl group per specific surface by a BET method is equal to or more than 20μmol/m<SP>2</SP>, an average particle size by a laser scattering method is equal to or less than 2μm, and an aspect ratio is equal to or more than 10. Also, the inorganic fiber is bound by the inorganic binder, is composed of substantially only the inorganic material, and comprises the inorganic fiber paper having the basis weight which is less than 100 g/m<SP>2</SP>. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT</p> |
