PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize protection which can be switched in a short time on a ring transmission path. SOLUTION: Signals on a ring transmission path 10 are transmitted clockwise, and signals on a ring transmission path 12 are transmitted counterclockwise. An OLT 14 and ONUs 16-1 to 16-6 each output an idle pattern to the ring transmission paths 10, 12 in a non-data period. If not receiving an idle pattern from an upstream in the non-data period, the OLT 14 and the ONUs 16-1 to 16-6 each output a link switching signal to the downstream of the ring transmission paths 10, 12.
