PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a summary creating apparatus and data processing method, with which a required scene is freely selected from media contents, and also to provide a program for making a computer execute the data processing method. SOLUTION: A summary creating apparatus comprises: an input section for inputting context contents description data including both a data structure part describing a plurality of segments representing scenes of media contents constructed from the plurality of scenes, and an attribute part, as attribute information assigned to each of the segments, describing a viewpoint represented by at least one keyword representing a scene and a score representing a significance level of the segment based on each of viewpoints; a selection section for selecting and outputting at least one segment on the basis of at least either the viewpoint or the score; a contents input section for inputting the media contents; and an extraction section for extracting a block of media contents from time information of the segment selected by the selection section.
