PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an infant seat detection device and an infant seat detection method capable of highly accurately detecting that the infant seat is mounted on a vehicle seat. SOLUTION: The infant seat detection device is provided with first to fourth load sensors 2A-2D arranged at front and rear sides and left and right sides of a seat cushion 11; and ECU 3 for determining existence of the infant seat 30 based on detection signals of the respective load sensors 2A-2D. The third load sensor 2C nearest an anchor 23 of a seat belt 20 is made to a specific sensor. A first total load value at a side not including the specific sensor at left and right sides of the seat cushion is compared with a first reference load value and a second total load value at a side not including the specific sensor at the front and rear sides of the seat cushion 11 is compared with a second reference load value. When the first total load value is smaller than the first reference load value and the second total load value is smaller than the second reference load value, it is determined that the infant seat 30 is mounted on a front passenger seat 10.
