PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a driver alarming device and method for detecting the presence of a danger of starting in a direction opposite to the direction intended by a driver for alarming. SOLUTION: The driver alarming device 9 for alarming when there is a danger of starting in the direction opposite to the direction intended by the driver 1, comprises a gear position detecting part 6 for detecting the position of a shift gear of an automobile; a sight line determining part 5 for determining whether the driver views the front or rear of a vehicle; a danger detecting part for detecting the presence of the danger of starting in the direction opposite to the direction intended by the driver based on the gear position and the direction viewed by the driver; a detection timing generating part 8 for generating the timing of detection of the presence or absence of the danger; and an alarming part for alarming when there is a danger.
