<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a communication system capable of being easily introduced and effectively suppressing a communication defect, and to provide communication equipment. <P>SOLUTION: Shopping cart communication equipment 10 arranged in a shopping cart for storing merchandises with an RFID tag 40 attached thereto functions as a reader/writer so as to perform communication with the RFID tag 40 and to read information transmitted from the RFID tag 40, and functions as the RFID tag so as to transmit the read information to display shelf communication devices 20<SB>1</SB>-20<SB>n</SB>which are attached to the display shelf for displaying the merchandises. The display shelf communication devices 20<SB>1</SB>-20<SB>n</SB>function as the reader/writer so as to receive the information transmitted from the shopping cart communication equipment 10, and function as the RFID tag so as to transmit merchandise information corresponding to the received information.
