PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyester which is manufactured using a new catalyst other than an antimony compound and which is applicable to a fiber for clothing, a fiber for industrial materials, various films and sheets, various moldings such as bottles and engineering plastics, and paints and adhesives. SOLUTION: This polyester is manufactured by using, as a polycondensation catalyst, a predetermined amount of a composition that has a coating layer comprising titanic acid which is formed on the surface of a solid solution comprising an aluminum compound and a magnesium compound.
