PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for easily producing a high molecular weight aromatic polyester comprising a tetramethylbiphenol as an aromatic diol component, by an interfacial polymerization process. SOLUTION: The invention relates to the method for producing the aromatic polyester by the interfacial polymerization process comprising contact of an organic solvent solution of phthalic anhydrides with aqueous alkaline solution of 3,3',5,5'-tetramethyl-4,4'-biphenol, wherein the organic solvent in the organic solvent solution is at least one selected from cyclohexanone, 2,6-dimethylcyclohexanone and anisol.
