PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new curative approach for the "relief" from acute renal failure, or to provide a means for at least speeding up the regression thereof. SOLUTION: A family1of protein and peptide including those each having an amino acid sequence of a new mitogenic protein referred to as wound growth factor(WGF), and an NH2-terminated peptide thereof that stimulates the growth of kidney epithelial cells(WGF include peptides of various lengths derived from the parent molecule so far as the parent molecule has mitogenic activity) are provided.
