The method involves influencing air-mass flow in an air supply (5) to combustion chambers (10, 15, 20, 25) of an internal combustion engine (1) by influencing units (30, 35, 40) such as throttle valve and compressor. The flow is measured at a location in the air supply downstream to the influencing units that are arranged in a flow direction of the supplied air. Exhaust gas is returned from an exhaust gas system (90) of the combustion engine to a discharge area in the air supply. An independent claim is also included for an internal combustion engine with an air supply.
