<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a belt type image heating device extent in service life, small in size and improved in reliability by preventing the surface soiling of a lubricant applying member from being dirtied in a standby state, thereby eliminating the problem caused by the surface soiling. <P>SOLUTION: The image heating device includes a heating rotating member 71 for heating an image on a recording material in a heating nip N, an endless belt 731 for forming the heating nip between the heating rotating member and itself, a pressure member 740 which is provided so as to freely slide on a belt inside surface in the heating nip and presses the belt toward the heating rotating member, and a lubricant applying member 735 for applying a lubricant to the belt inside surface. The lubricant applying member abuts on the belt when the belt is pressed to the heating rotating member, and the lubricant applying member is made away from the belt inside surface when the belt is not pressed to the heating rotating member. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
