<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology capable of securing the readability of characters even if frequency characteristics of a background image have high-frequency characteristics. <P>SOLUTION: This image processing apparatus comprises a storage means for storing a background image and a character image which is different from the background image, a processing object area determination means for determining a processing object area that has a prescribed positional relation to the character image out of the background image, a background specific quantity extraction means for extracting a background specific quantity which includes specific frequency representing frequency characteristics of the processing object area, a character specific quantity extraction means for extracting a character specific quantity which includes at least one out of the lightness and the chroma of the character image, a parameter determination means for determining a parameter used for image processing applied to the processing object area in accordance with the combination of the background specific quantity and the character specific quantity, and an image processing means for applying image processing to the processing object area according to the parameter. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
