PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a thermoplastic polyimide foam producing a continuous formed sheet, imparting improved insulation and simplification of a process and to provide the thermoplastic polyimide foam. SOLUTION: The method for producing the thermoplastic polyimide foam comprises steps, a step forming a continuous sheet by extruding the thermoplastic polyimide resin, a step impregnating an inert gas into the formed sheet under pressure, a step rapidly releasing the pressure applied on the formed sheet and then heating to foam and steps selectively repeating a plurality of times of the impregnation step under pressure of the inert gas and the foaming step.
