PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To compress data efficiently by discriminating data requiring to be held with high resolution from data not requiring to be held with high resolution, and to handle the data conveniently. SOLUTION: In the image data compressing method, a blocking section divides an input image into blocks to output blocked image data, an extracting section extracts high resolution data from the blocked image data, a first compressing section compresses the high resolution data, a low resolution converting section converts the blocked image data into low resolution data, a second compressing section compresses the low resolution data, and a code composite section compounds first compression data from the first compressing section and second compression data from the second compressing section as one compression data.
