PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide AV equipment and its control method that achieve copy protection with high reliability by preventing illegal equipment lists obtained from a plurality of networks from incorrectly being updated. SOLUTION: An authentication key exchange processing means 75 compares version information of an illegal equipment list that equipment having performed authentication key exchange processing has with version information of an illegal equipment list, that the authentication key exchange processing means 75 itself has to decide whether the illegal equipment list stored in a storage means 66 is updated. When it is judged that the illegal equipment list is updated, the version information of the illegal equipment list that the equipment having performed the authentication key exchange processing has is reported to other authentication key exchange processing means 77.
