PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rubber composition for a pneumatic tire which can improve balanced wet and snow performance capabilities and which has good workability. SOLUTION: A rubber composition comprises a styrene-butadiene rubber (A) of 20 to 60% by weight having a glass transition point of -35 to -25°C, a styrene content of 20 to 40% by weight, and a vinyl content in butadiene parts of 20 to 60% by weight, and the other diene rubber (B) of 80 to 40% by weight. A silica of more than 100 to not over 200 parts by weight having a CTAB specific surface area of 60 to 150 m<SP>2</SP>/g is blended for a rubber composition of 100 parts by weight having a glass transition point of -55 to -40°C as a total rubber composition. A silane coupling agent of the following formula (2) is blended. The formula (2) is (C<SB>n</SB>H<SB>2n+1</SB>O)<SB>3</SB>Si-C<SB>m</SB>H<SB>2m</SB>-S-CO-C<SB>k</SB>H<SB>2k+1</SB>(2), in which n is an integer of 1 to 3, m is an integer of 1 to 5, and k is an integer of 5 to 9.
