The spark plug has a housing (2) with insulator (3) which insulates a central electrode (4) electrically from the housing. A heat transfer area (8) is provided with circumferential interspace (7) between the housing and insulator and is set separately from the clamping area (14) of the housing which holds the insulator. Clamping area can surround a longitudinal section of the insulator which is defined by bearing shoulders (16,17) in the middle of same.
