PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lens cover apparatus constituted so that a filter attaching/detaching operation may be simplified, further, a troublesomeness of storing a filter may be eliminated, besides, information on the filter selection can be imparted, and to provide a camera using the lens cover apparatus. SOLUTION: The lens cover apparatus includes a cover part (4) equipped with at least an opening (16a) and an optical filter (16b), a sliding mechanism of sliding the cover part, latching mechanisms (11a, 11b and 11c) of stopping the sliding operation of the cover part in a plurality of stop positions. The cover part is arranged in front of the camera lens, and the front of the lens is shielded by the cover part in the first stop position, and the opening is arranged in front of the lens in the second stop position, and in at least one stop position other than the aforesaid positions, the optical filter is arranged in front of the lens.
