PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an eddy current decelerator for preventing a drag torque. SOLUTION: The eddy current decelerator comprises: a first magnet supporting ring 6 having a plurality of permanent magnets 10 facing a rotor 1 attached to a rotating shaft and circumferentially and alternately arraying magnetic poles in opposite polarity toward the rotor 1 at a predetermined interval; and a second magnet supporting ring 7 having a plurality of permanent magnets 12 disposed between the first magnet supporting ring 6 and the rotor 1 and the poles circumferentially arrayed in the same polarity at a predetermined interval. A plurality of grooves 15 are positioned between the permanent magnet 12 in the second magnet supporting ring 7 and the first magnet supporting ring 6, and circumferentially provided on a face of the second magnet supporting ring 7 near the first magnet supporting ring 6 at a predetermined interval. The permanent magnet 12 in the second magnet supporting ring 7 is circumferentially deviated from a circumferential central line b of the groove 15 located between the permanent magnet 12 and the first magnet supporting ring 6.
