PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a servo apparatus of a linear tape drive wherein a secondary resonance frequency is increased by leaps and bounds, phase lead compensation is made possible, a servo band is increased to a level several times as high as a current level and exceeds a primary resonance frequency and tracking density can be drastically enhanced. SOLUTION: In the servo apparatus provided with a first minute motion following mechanism 113 having a magnetic head chip 112 wherein a plurality of magnetic head elements are arranged in a track width direction and a pair of bimorph elements 114 which are disposed opposite to each other at both ends in the track width direction of the magnetic head chip 112 and whose one ends are fixed and a second minute motion following mechanism 213 similarly constituted, displacement ends of two pairs of bimorph elements 114 and 214 are connected to both ends in the track width direction of the magnetic head chip 112 via chip bases 115 and 215 and disposed so that lines bonding the displacement ends to the fixed ends of the bimorph elements 114 of the first minute motion following mechanism 113 are orthogonal or nearly orthogonal to those of the second minute motion following mechanism 213.
