ADJUSTING METHOD OF RECORDING HEAD OF MAGNETIC TAPE RECORDING AND REPRODUCING APPARATUS AND MAGNETIC TAPE RECORDING AND REPRODUCING APPARATUS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an adjusting method by which self-formation of narrow and uniform tracks can be performed by n pieces of rotational recording heads of a magnetic recording and reproducing apparatus. SOLUTION: Treatment for recording a measuring signal and an erasure signal to adjacent tracks in a recordable tape 10 by one recording head HWi of n pieces (i=1 to n) is performed about n pieces of recording heads and the measuring signals are nearly simultaneously recorded on n pieces of tracks by the n pieces of recording heads HW1 to HWn in a normal operation state. Reproducing heads are displaced in a track width direction for the obtained two kinds of tracks and a characteristic curve of a reproduction signal waveform amplitude of the measuring signals to a shift (off-track) amount of the tracks is obtained, a half value width of the characteristic curve is adopted as the track width for convenience' sake and a variable Rioptimum and a variable Rinow corresponding to the width are obtained from respective two kinds of tracks. The position of the recording head HWi is adjusted by an actuator so that the variation of the variable Rinow to the variable Rioptimum is lower than a desirable value. COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT
