PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thickening agent for liquid detergents that comprises a compound bearing no nitrogen atom in the molecule and exhibits more excellent thickening effects. SOLUTION: The thickening agent composition for liquid detergents comprises at least one or two or more among compounds represented by general formula (1) and compounds represented by general formula (2). In general formulae (1) and (2), R<SP>1</SP>is an 8-20C alkyl and/or alkenyl group; and R<SP>2</SP>is a hydrogen atom, a methyl group, an ethyl group or a hydroxymethyl group.
