Serial Attached SCSI ("SAS") discovery is performed. Probing is performed from first and second ports of a SAS expander device. It is determined that the first port leads to a SAS initiator and that the second port does not lead to any SAS initiator. The first port is set to serve as a subtractive port for the SAS expander device.
