The present invention relates to the use of a high- fluency, intense pulsed light source for inducing the expression of TGF-ß in skin cells, resulting in the release of extracellular matrix proteins such as tenascin, and an increase in the concentration of fibroblasts and plasma cells. As the high-fluency, intense pulsed light source methodology disclosed herein produces an artificial wound which stimulates the immune system and extracellular matrix formation, the present invention relates to the use of a high-fluency intense pulsed light source alone, or in combination with laser or radiof requency, for dermatologic treatment and plastic surgery treatment.
