Disclosed is an alloy powder for electrodes which contains a hydrogen storage alloy and a magnetic cluster. The hydrogen storage alloy contains 20-70% by weight of Ni, and the magnetic cluster contains metal nickel while having an average particle diameter of 8-10 nm. Also disclosed is a method for producing an alloy powder for electrodes which comprises an activation step wherein a raw material powder containing a hydrogen storage alloy is brought into contact with an aqueous solution containing A% by weight of sodium hydroxide at a temperature of not less than 100°C for B minutes. In this connection, A and B satisfy the following relation: 2410 = A × B = 2800.
