An optimum write power detection method of an optical disk device is provided to be capable of detecting optimum write power at each writing speed on the basis of optimum write power detected through an OPC(Optimum Power Control) operation on the inner circumference of an optical disk and a power ratio detected at each writing speed, thus time for the OPC operation is reduced. Maximum writing speed of an optical disk device is checked(S10,S20). According to the checked results, a power ratio for each writing speed is detected on the basis of reference write power previously detected/stored for each writing speed of an optical disk(S21). On the inner circumference of the optical disk, an OPC operation is conducted at predetermined writing speed to detect optimum write power(S22). Based on the detected optimum write power and the power ratio, optimum write power for another writing speed except the OPC writing speed is detected(S23).
