PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer and a method of detecting a lens whereby the precision of detecting a lens pitch of a lens sheet can be improved, and also a degree of freedom of an arrangement of the lens sheet can be increased. SOLUTION: The printer which carries out printing to the lens sheet 12 is equipped with a carriage 30 which has a printing head to eject ink droplets to the lens sheet 12 and moves in a main scanning direction by driving a carriage motor, a light emitting part 61 which emits light toward the lens sheet 12 and is set at the opposite side to the carriage 30 via the lens sheet 12 in a conveyance state, a light receiving part 62 which is attached to the carriage 30 and outputs a detection signal according to the intensity of light brought therein after emitted from the light emitting part 61 and passing the lens sheet 12, and a control means which controls to drive at least one of the carriage motor, a paper feeding motor and the printing head while reflecting the detection signal outputted from the light receiving part 62.
