PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accerelate write-in speed without deteriorating the transfer speed between a personal computer and a recording and reproducing apparatus, in an information processing system comprising the personal computer and the recording and reproducing apparatus such as an AV device. SOLUTION: When a memory part 3 records audio contents supplied from the personal computer 100 in a MD90, the memory part 3 stores a flag indicating area (system data area) in which management information about audio contents is to be recorded and updating is required surely. A discriminating part 8 discriminates an area in which the system data are to be recorded based on the flag stored in the memory part 3. A recording part 2 records the system data taken out from the memory part 3 in the system data area provided in the prescribed area of the MD90 based on discrimination of the discriminating part 8.
