PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an olefin polymer having a high stereoregularity and a low ash content, by using a catalyst that employs an olefin polymer as a support. SOLUTION: The support for olefin polymerization satisfies the following requirements [1]-[6]: [1] the support is a polymer particle obtained by polymerizing an olefin, [2] the polymer contains a hydroxyl group, [3] the polymer has a molecular weight distribution (Mw/Mn) determined by GPC of≤4.0, [4] the support has a minimum particle size of≥1μm and an average particle size of≥5μm, [5] the support achieves an ash content of≤2,000 wt. ppm after firing, and [6] the support has a Si content of≤10 wt. ppm. The olefin polymerization catalyst is obtained by subjecting the support for olefin polymerization satisfying the above requirements to a catalytic reaction with an aluminoxane to obtain a catalyst precursor and further supporting a transition metal compound on the catalyst precursor.
