The invention is directed to methods of using compounds with selectivity for the a<SUB>2</SUB>d-1 calcium channel subunit subtype. Methods for determining whether a test agent binds to an a<SUB>2</SUB>d-1 polypeptide, for screening for a test agent that binds to an a<SUB>2</SUB>d-1 polypeptide, for determining a<SUB>2</SUB>d-1 or a<SUB>2</SUB>d-2 selectivity of an agent, for quantifying binding sites of a specific a<SUB>2</SUB>d-1 selective (ASL-1) ligand in a biological sample, for quantifying ASL1 binding sites in a biological sample, for determining the tissue distribution of a<SUB>2</SUB>d-1, for determining the subtype occupancy of an agent, and for determining the subtype occupancy of an a<SUB>2</SUB>d-1 ligand, are provided. The invention also includes articles of manufacture comprising vessels containing a specific a<SUB>2</SUB>d-1 selective ligand. |
