The device has a covering flap (14) swivelably supported about a base-fixed swivel axis (16). The covering flap is held in attachment at a seat part (2) or a seat cushion (4) of the motor vehicle, by a pretensioning part (18) fixedly arranged at the base of a motor vehicle, where the pretensioning unit is a leg spring (20). The spring is fastened with a side piece (22) at the vehicle base or at a component (24) fixed at the base. The spring is movably arranged at a covering flap (14). The swivel axis is formed by a hinge (28).
