Provided are a method for preparing a highly heat resistant wholly aromatic polyester, and a highly heat resistant wholly aromatic polyester prepared by the method which is free from generation of bubble and discoloration and is excellent in thermal stability, mechanical stability and heat resistance. The method comprises the steps of reacting p-hydroxybenzoic acid, biphenol and terephthalic acid with acetic anhydride; removing by-products and pulverizing the discharged product; increasing the temperature to a weight reducing starting temperature; and increasing the temperature from the weight reducing starting temperature to a melting point and maintaining the solid phase reaction at the increased melting point, wherein the second temperature increasing process from the weight reducing starting temperature to the melting point is carried out with a small velocity of 0.3-0.8 deg.C/min for 4-7 hours.
