An obstacle detecting apparatus for a vehicle is provided to reduce a dead zone by positioning a camera higher than a side mirror. An obstacle detecting apparatus for a vehicle includes a transfer device case(100), a control unit, and a camera driving unit. The transfer device case includes a top(102) separated into two parts in the moving direction of a camera coupling body to move a camera coupling body(200), a first driving motor(104) fixed to one top side, a pinion gear(106) connected to an end portion of the shaft of the first driving motor, and a roller supporting plate(108) formed at left/right ends. A roller is installed on the top of the transfer device case for a smooth movement of the camera coupling body. The camera coupling body includes a camera case, a magnet mounted at the lower left and right sides of the camera case, a hinge connection unit, and a rack gear.
