A method for controlling operation of a microwave oven is provided to restart operation of the microwave oven without pushing a stop button when a door of the microwave oven is closed while food is not taken out. A method for controlling operation of a microwave oven includes the steps of: determining opening or closing of a door of the microwave oven while the microwave oven is operated(S120); temporarily stopping the operation of the microwave oven when the door of the microwave oven is opened(S130); detecting whether the door of the microwave oven is opened or closed after stopping the microwave oven(S140); detecting whether food is in the microwave oven when the microwave oven is closed(S150); restarting the operation of the microwave oven when the food is in the microwave oven(S160); and completing the operation of the microwave oven when no food is in the microwave oven(S170).
