Preparation of an alkoxy-substituted-(1-alkenyl)-benzene compound (I) comprises treating an alkoxy-substituted (2-alkenyl)-benzene compound (II) with 1-6C alkali/alkaline-earth alcoholates (III) (0.1-10 mol.%). Preparation of an alkoxy-substituted-(1-alkenyl)-benzene compound of formula (I) comprises treating an alkoxysubstituted (2-alkenyl)-benzene compound of formula (II) with 1-6C alkali/alkaline-earth alcoholates (III) (0.1-10 mol.%). R 1>1-6C alkyl; R 2>-R 5>H, 1-6C alkyl or 1-6C alkoxy; and R 6>H or 1-6C alkyl. R 1> and R 2> together may form a 5-7 membered ring containing 3-6C and 1-2 O atoms. [Image].
