A method and an apparatus for storing a still image and a dynamic image are provided to automatically set the name of the still image and the dynamic image according to a country where the terminal is located, thereby efficiently managing the images when there are many still images and dynamic images stored in the terminal. A method for storing a still image and a dynamic image in a portable terminal comprises the following steps of: determining a country where the portable terminal is located if the request for storing the still image and the dynamic image is generated(420,430); changing a determined country name to be included in the default name of the still image and the dynamic image of the portable terminal(440); and storing the still image and the dynamic image having the changed default name in the portable terminal(440).
