The invention provides a cable coloring unit, which maintains correct positioning of a mark on a predetermined length of the cable, even when the coloring unit has a cable travel measuring means separately provided from another cable travel measuring means provided on a cable cutting installation. To achieve the foregoing object, an electrical cable coloring unit 9 is mounted on a cable cutting installation 8. The cutting installation 8 cuts the electrical cable in predetermined lengths. The coloring unit 9 has an encoder 33 and a switch 82. The switch 82 outputs a signal showing the cutting of the cable. The coloring unit 9 has an encoder 33, a colorant jet unit 32, and a control unit 34. The colorant jet unit 32 jets a liquid colorant by a predetermined amount toward an outer surface of the cable to color the cable. The control unit 34 has a CPU 62 that determines whether there is a difference between cable travel distances obtained from the encoders 21, 33 in connection with the cutting timing of the cable. CPU 62 corrects the jetting timing of the colorant jet unit 32 based on the difference between information obtained from the encoders 21, 33.
