The invention relates to a gear mechanism comprising a drive shaft (16) that can be connected to a motor (17) for automatically pivoting a vehicle door or vehicle lid that is rotationally fixed to a hinge bracket (1). Said gear mechanism (8) acts on the first end region (7) of a drive lever (6), whose second end region (9) is connected to the hinge bracket (1) in a pivoting manner. The aim of the invention is to obtain a space-saving assembly for the drive and the hinge bracket (1). To achieve this, a planetary gear, which is integrated into the drive lever (6), is provided as the gear mechanism (8). The drive shaft (16) of the gear mechanism (8) is configured by the support axis of the sun gear (12) and the internal-geared wheel (15) of the planetary gear (8) is formed by the correspondingly configured first end region (2) of the drive lever (6).
