The catch, designed to hold a car bonnet (20) closed, consists of a mechanism (30) with a release lever (32) and a catch hook (31) that engages with a bracket (32) under the bonnet. The mechanism is mounted on a frame (34) of sheet metal fixed to the upper and rear surfaces (11, 12) of a fixed structure member (10). In the event of a collision with a pedestrian the frame is bent backwards by the impact, moving the mechanism away from the pedestrian.
