A method and a system for collecting traffic information are provided to collect traffic information at any place by using a mobile communication network as well as a satellite DMB network. A traffic information center(30) receives a predetermined navigation traffic information message through a DMB(Digital Multimedia Broadcasting) network. The traffic information center extracts position and speed information from the navigation traffic information message and stores the extracted information for each path and time interval. Then, the traffic information center transmits the position and speed information through the navigation traffic information message. A traffic information terminal(10) measures the current position and speed information, generates the navigation traffic information message, and transmits the navigation traffic information message through the DMB network.
