421,765. Hinges; stays. BROWN, J. D., and MORRISON, R., 116, West Nile Street, Glasgow. Feb. 8, 1934, No. 4108. [Classes 65 (i) and 65 (ii)] [See also Group X] In a window comprising an upper sash pivoted on a horizontal axis and a lower sash hinged at one side, means are provided on the lower sash to engage with the pivot pin of the upper sash whereby the lower sash is raised during the latter part of the movement of the upper sash. The arrangement is shown applied to a window having its upper sash 4 mounted on horizontal pivot pins 6, with means as described in Specification 421,787 whereby the pivot pins travel upwards, in a vertical slot in a plate 1 fixed to the window frame, as the sash is opened. The lower sash 10 has pins 13 engaging in vertical slots in the free leaves of hinges 11 attached to the window frame, and is fixed at its upper end to one leaf 16 of a hinge having its other leaf 14 extending upwards and formed with a vertical slot engaging the pivot pin 6 of the upper sash. The slot in the leaf 14 extends above the pin 6 in the closed position of the upper sash, so that the pin does not engage the end of the slot to raise the lower sash until the upper sash is partly open. |
